OMG My Last Post

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all aren't stressing about finals too much!!

It's my last post for the semester, but I may post in the future, so who knows....

I hope everyone has a wonderful summer and you all get the opportunity to relax instead of work the whole time!

Hope to see some of you next semester! Buh-bye

For the Ladies!

Girls!

I made a beyond brilliant purchase yesterday at the salon and spa I work at and I had to share.

It's called Nutra Luxe Lash MD and it makes your eyelashes grow longer and thicker in three to five weeks!!

And it works. A lot of women have tried it and I have seen a difference and it's pretty amazing. And I'm down because I hate my eyelashes. Like I spend way too much time each morning applying mascara just to get my eyelashes to look longer.

And yes, it's kind of expensive (like $42), BUT I would still highly recommend it. So the next time you see me, my eyelashes aren't even going to need mascara!!

Anyway, this is where I bought it and you guys should come check them out at Bella Strada! Also, they do eyelash fills and airbrush tanning!

Summer Time

I am so excited for summer, you wouldn't believe!

First off, I'm going down to Corpus Christie like the second week of May for my cousin's graduation, and you best believe I'll be hanging out at that beach!

Then I'll be working my freaking butt off for next month or so. But it will be fun because I work at Bella Strada Salon and Spa, so I get to hang out with some pretty cool people every day!
(You guys should stop by, get a massage, facial or haircut. OR you could buy your mom a gift card for Mother's Day.... Just a suggestion.)

And this isn't set in stone, but my boyfriend's brother will be living in Florida this summer and I've been invited to join his family for a visit! Which means the beach and (maybe) Disney World!!! I'm excited about that because I've never been to Disney World! But I'm trying not to get my hopes up because it's not set in stone.

What about you guys, what are your summer plans? Try not to make me too jealous!

My Top 5 Movies of All Time!

There are only a few movies that I am willing to watch over and over and over again. And these are them:

1. Troy. Because who doesn't love Brad Pitt AND Orlando Bloom AND Eric Bana all in the same movie?! Also, the portrayal of how the Greeks invaded Troy is interesting to me as well.

2. Lord of the Rings. All of them (like I can pick just one). Because they are all epic.

3. Kate and Leopold. This movie is just adorable. Plus, I love Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman. It's about a man who travels forward in time from the 19th century to present day New York and falls in love with a woman there. It's a great chick flick.

4. Rear Window. It's an Alfred Hitchcock film and a classic thriller with James Stewart and Grace Kelly. And all I'm telling you about the story line is that a man witnesses a murder and the whole movie is them basically trying to prove it. I'll also say this: you should watch it.

5. Law Abiding Citizen. This movie blew my mind. It's violent (which I don't always care for) but at the same time I found myself rooting for him because of what happened to his wife and kid! And a surprise ending, what's not to love about that? This is an awesome movie, I highly recommend it.

Geez, this post nearly took me an hour. I found it very hard to narrow it down. Apparently I love movies.

Cute Kitties and (kind of) Studying for Finals

Tonight, when I should have been studying diligently for my Media Law final, I found myself searching YouTube videos for cute kitties.

Productive, I know.

So I thought to myself, if I've wasted so much time looking up cute kitty videos, I might as well blog about it right? (Also, has anyone else noticed how much I post from YouTube on here? Maybe I have a problem...)

Anyway, here you go:

Bros, Broskies, Bro-mans and Brahs

A couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend, Matthew, and I went to his home town and met up with a couple of his friends from high school.

Let's just say that it was "bro" central. Ultimately, it was hilarious. But at the time my reaction was more like, "Are you serious?"

Just to paint you a little picture, it went a little something like this:

The dialogue was different, but the conversation had generally the same affect.

So in the end I had a great time with his buddies, but when I got back home to Edmond I immediately called up my best friend and demanded that we hang out so that I could recover from my "bro" time.

Is anybody else feeling as though there is a "bro" epidemic going around through all men in their 20s??

Young the Giant is coming to OK!

Oh my goodness I am super duper happy to say that one of my favorite bands is coming to the Diamond Ball Room on June 6!

It's going to be epic so save the date, people!

Just to give you guys a little taste check out this video! This is one of their more popular songs, so you may recognize it! Enjoy :)

Man, I'm Awkward.

Yeah, I have issues when it comes to not being uncomfortable.  Or just being normal. But let's just stick with awkward for today, yeah?

Anyway, here's just a short list of some things that I do on a regular basis, that make me think to myself, "I really need to get my act together."

1. Autocorrect. Is the bane of my existence. I have weird texts ranging from "I need to buy dingleberries" to my mom (which I still don't know what I was trying to say) to "I'm so hood" (meant to be "I'm so good").

2. Tripping/Running into things. I have been doing this since I was kid. I always manage to trip over my own two feet or run into a friggin doorway of a house I've lived in since I was 4.

3. Being gullible. Do you ever have those moments when people are looking at you like, "How are you not getting this?" I have those a lot, and always at the most inconvenient times. Like when I'm with a big group of people.

4. Speaking in front of people. I'm not sure if this really counts as being "awkward"... But I always get bright red whenever I speak in front of people. Even when I do a pretty decent job of presenting something and I have every reason to be confident. And it's always just the best when people look at me and are like, "You are, like, bright red." Gee, thanks.

These are things that (sadly) happen to me on a regular basis, but I've long since decided to embrace my awkwardness and surround myself with people who find it endearing instead of completely idiotic. If you haven't done this yet, you should try it. It'll set you free.

Good Days and Being Thankful

It's been a good day, so I think I'm going to post about what I'm thankful for!

1. This semester almost being over with.
  • Most especially Media Law. I mean, no hating on Dr. Hanebutt (I think he is a very good professor), but law is just not my thing. At all. So it's pretty cool that I'm ending the semester feeling pretty satisfied with that class!
2. IHOP.
  • And great friends who buy me breakfast! That's right, I'm talking about you, Courtney Bass!
3. Shorts and flip-flow weather!
  • I'm loving how it's not cold at all!! I'm in love with shorts and sandals so this is a great time of year for me.
4. My two-inch thick memory foam on my bed. But it makes me want to stay in bed all day, and that's not always a good thing!

5. My parents. Because they bought the memory foam for me.

  • Just Kidding, that's not the only reason I'm thankful for them! They are my anchors to reality and my reason for striving to do well. I love them.

I. Love. Shopping!!

So online shopping is probably my biggest weakness. I'm not saying that I buy a lot (because then I would be so broke I wouldn't be able to live), but I always go to different websites and check out what they have and see if I can get inspiration for outfits.

Anyway, I would love to share with you guys my favorite websites to check out some cute clothes!

1. Francesca's: I am IN LOVE with this store! I not only go to the website, but I go to the store all the time. It's awesome, seriously. Check it out.

2. J. Crew: Yeah, they are kind of expensive, but I adore their style. I go to the Looks We Love tab and that gives some great ideas for outfits all year round.

3. Ruche: Vintage style. Nuff said.

4. Victoria's Secret: Because who doesn't love looking at swimsuits that only look good on models?

Annnddd last but not least:

5. Anthropologie: Oh, yes. I know how expensive this particular store is. And I also know that I will probably never buy an outfit from there ever because I do have some common sense, but I still love looking at the home decor and accessories!

Do you guys have any favorite places to shop online? I would love some new suggestions!

Lots of Happily Ever Afters

Has anyone else noticed how many fairytale related T.V. shows and movies have been coming out lately? I, of course, am loving it, because I love anything fairytale related!

First of all, there's Once Upon a Time. This show is good if you like intrigue! It's about a small town whose inhabitants are all fairytale characters, but they don't know it.

And then there are movies coming out later this year, like Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth.

And of course the lovely Julia Roberts starred as the Queen in Mirror Mirror.

Oh, and I can't forget Grimm, which I love. Although this T.V. series isn't really fairy tales, it's a great show based off childhood stories!

Also, I'm pretty much in love with David Giuntoli.

Basically, I'm a fairytale addict, and I'm not afraid to admit it!

I Always Have Room for Dessert!

While looking for drink mixes online, I stumbled upon this wonderful blog!

Room for Dessert has a lot of delicious looking recipes, and although I am no chef, even I want to try some of this stuff!!

She also posts some cute outfit ideas (which I am always willing to check out!), and some party planning ideas.

I realize that there are a lot of cooking blogs out there, but this one seems pretty cute.

Basically, go check it out.

Words of Wisdom

Found this on Pinterest and I wanted to share!

Awww...

Happy weekend everyone! Hope it's a good one!!

Summer Reading List!

Yeah, whatever, I'm a nerd. What of it?

But anyway, since all I'll be doing is work, work, and work some more, I decided I would work on reading some books that I've been wanting to check out!

So here it goes:

1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • I realize that these are two different books. BUT I am going to be taking a class next semester on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, so I figured why not refresh my memory? So it's for educational purposes, obviously!
2.  The Maze Runner by James Dashner
  • I (along with everyone else) was obsessed with The Hunger Games (before it was a movie) and I've heard that if you liked The Hunger Games, you will definitely like The Maze Runner. So I'm down.
3. The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters
  • It's a ghost story that's supposedly not cheesy! Yay! (I really don't know more about it than that, but I do love a good ghost story!)
4. Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
  • A French journalists is asked to do a story about the day all the Jews were rounded up and sent to concentration camps in 1942. In investigating the story she finds secrets about a young girl named Sarah. A historical and investigative story that I've heard is really enjoyable if you like to read stuff like that!

Now I know that this is not a very long list. But let's face it, people, LOTR is going to take me half the summer anyway! (Probably longer if I'm being honest with myself.)

Props go to Samantha Maloy for giving me the idea to blog about this!

And just a little disclaimer: I will not be just sitting at my house and just reading all summer! I'm not that bad.

We Are Young

I go through phases with music. If I hear a song I like, I will listen to it over and over again until I know it by heart. And then I'll go look up music by the same artist and listen to only them for days at a time.

Some would probably say that isn't really the best way to go about it (they say I will get sick of the artist and never listen to them again. This hasn't happened to me yet).

Anyway, my new favorite song right now would be "We Are Young" by Fun ft. Janelle Monae. There is also an acoustic version if you guys want to check that out too!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Guest Speaker, Dave Rhea

"Love to learn."

This is Dave Rhea's philosophy when it comes to his job. It's constantly changing, he says, and if you want to be a part of this business, you have to learn to adapt.

What I really liked about him was that he told us what he did everyday for work, and that his job is so flexible. Blogging is part of his job, but it sounded like what he blogs about is not the most important part of what he does every week.

Also, another topic he touched on was failure. I really appreciated him talking about that, because as a student working on a degree, I'm terrified of being hired in the future and then making some kind of mistake and getting fired.

It was comforting to see that even though he made a mistake, he's still respected and successful. But I also think it's safe to say that you shouldn't be stupid and make the same mistakes all the time. That would probably not be appreciated in a professional workplace.

The flexibility of what he does is what is most appealing to me. I hope I'm as happy with my future job as he is with his.

Dave Rhea works at The Journal Record, where you can find his blog on social media.

Love, Love, Love

Mumford and Sons literally makes me so happy. Just listening to their lyrics makes me giddy.

Even if you don't listen to Mumford and sons, you can't deny the beauty in lyrics like those. I personally feel like lyrics are the most important part of a song, and Mumford and Sons deliver.

What about you guys, are you fans?

Facebook Follies

Ok, is anyone else just about fed up with Facebook?

Don't get me wrong, I check mine everyday, several times a day, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. But I mean come on, there are times when I really just want to deactivate it.

First of all, the constant updates. Oh, the updates...

When will they just stick with a layout for longer than a few months?

Second of all, the hackers.

That's right, I got hacked this week. Which isn't that big of a deal, I just had to change my password. But my account was temporarily suspended, and I couldn't get on Facebook on my phone, and I had people trying to contact me for classes through Facebook messenger, and it was just a massive mess that was so unnecessary.

I know that that I am one of very few people who wants to get rid of my Facebook, but I can't help but wonder how much easier my life will become if I deactivated it?

I also know that this is not new. I know I am not the first person to complain about this. But I am a child of the social media generation and I'm just trying to keep up.

Who knows, maybe I'm just all talk and will never ever deactivate my Facebook! I guess we'll see if I get mad enough ever again to just end my relationship with social media for good.

Doc Hoc's Blogging Advice

On Tuesday, 2/14, our blogging class had a visitor, Kurt Hochenauer, who gave a lot of insight into what to blog about.

He said that every person should blog about what they want, and make sure they know the subject well.

I think what I liked best was that he blogs about something that is not very popular in Oklahoma, and for that matter, the U.S. right now. More people are leaning right when it comes to politics these days, and the fact that Hochenauer is very very liberal is unusual to see hear in the South.

I like how he has a blog that is controversial, but he realizes he has the right to talk about those things that he feels are problematic or not fair in politics. It's inspiring to see a person take the initiative with a difficult topic and be really knowledgeable about it.

A little side note: I went into class that day thinking that I would be hearing a lot about politics. Yes, I went in with preconceived notions, and was pleasantly surprised. He mentioned a couple of things going on with politics right now, but other than that he never gave his point of view on much, and never forced his opinion on us.

Over all, what I got out of Kurt Hochenauer's discussion was that blogging is something you have to be disciplined in, and it's best to love what you're writing about so that blogging isn't a hassle, but a fun past time, that you want to spend a couple of hours on.

Birthday Bash!

Yay it's my birthday!! I'm like a little kid when it comes to my birthday, I think it's the most important day of the year (besides Easter maybe).

And it's my 21st birthday so I need to do something special! My parents are taking me out to dinner, but I need some ideas for this weekend!

A few suggestions that have been made so far:
  • Speakeasy
  • CityWalk
  • LIT
But hey, I have no idea if these are legitimately good places to go. I just want a good place to go where it's not gross and trashy. I want to have a fun time, not a crazy time. I think there is a difference, don't you?

So, please, make some suggestions, because I am hopelessly ignorant when it comes to this stuff! I would love to hear what you guys have to say!

A Book Worth Reading

If there is one thing you should know about me, it is that I love to read. I love to read anything from memoirs to fantasy, from romance to comedy.

One requirement I must have, however, is that a book has to make me feel something. I don't want to just read empty words on a page, and then feel empty after reading it.

Recently, I have read a book that took me on a roller coaster of emotions called "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky, which turned out to be completely excellent. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

It's about a young freshman in high school, Charlie, who is very shy and very innocent, and is taken under the wing of two seniors. Throughout the whole book, you're reading letters he's writing to his "friend" (who you never actually meet) and you get to experience his first year of high school with him.

The writing is amazing as well, giving insight to many different situations in the young boy's life and being able to know what he is thinking. Also, it's not that long, if you don't like to read books that look like it will take you forever to finish.

This book isn't necessarily a happy one, but it is totally worth it. This is a book that is not only emotional, but true to many people.

Unfortunately, this book has been banned by several libraries and schools, which I think all comes down to the fact that a lot of teenagers face many of the problems that Charlie faces, and reality is not always pleasant.

I've only read a few books that I actually considered beautiful, but I can honestly say that this book may be one of them. You can easily see that in the following quotes:

"We accept the love we think we deserve."

"And in that moment, I swear we were infinite."

I hope that anybody who hasn't read this will be inspired to in the future. It's definitely worth it, trust me.

Entering the Blogosphere

I have never been much of a blogger. I've always enjoyed looking at other people's blogs and seeing what they have to say about anything, especially for people who have traveled extensively or who like to plan events or trips.

Well, now I am officially a part of the blogosphere, and my niche is the "Hobbyist". I am part of the 61% of bloggers who blog about whatever they want to, basically whatever they find interesting at that time. So after reading the article on Techonorati, I learned a few essential things about blogging.
  • As a Hobbyist, I should be more concerned with being personally satisfied with what I am blogging about and having to do with something I'm interested in. I want people to enjoy what I write about, but ultimately, I just want to be able to speak my mind.
  • I will be more successful with my blog if I blog frequently. According to Technorati, people usually start a blog and then fade out within 5 to 6 months. People who forget or are not wanting to blog will not be successful.
  • Blogging for businesses is very handy. Although I am not blogging for any company, just for my class and own satisfaction, I still think that the business tactic of having a blog updated frequently is pretty cool. Maybe later in life that will be a way will go, but for now, I'll just be posting whatever I want!
So for the next few months, I will be posting for my own entertainment, and hopefully for other people's entertainment as well!

Top 5 Favorite Shows

It may not be a good thing, but I love television, and I love following good shows. Once I start a good show I don't stop until I am completely caught up and know everything about the characters and what the plot line is. It may sound like a waste of time, and I could be doing better things like studying or doing more studying. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I sit in front of a television set in a catatonic state, but hey, I like to relax and watch my favorite shows. My favorite shows are:
  1. Friends: My all time favorite. Hands down. I own all the seasons on DVD and I've seen all the episodes countless times. They still make me laugh. You tell me a quote from the show, and I'll know what episode it came from.
  2. How I Met Your Mother: I just recently started watching this show, and I love it so much. It's hilarious. That's all there is to it. I'm addicted.
  3. The Office: So, so funny. It's a classic as far as I'm concerned.
  4. Gilmore Girls: I've seen all of the episodes. They are so witty and intelligent, and they can eat more than anyone could ever do in real life and still keep their figures. It's also pretty dramatic, which is pretty cool too.
  5. Modern Family: This show makes me laugh every time I see it. Phil is the best.
And that's it, although there are probably going to be more in the future.

Introductory Post

This is my first blog post ever so this is new territory for me, but I'm looking forward to learning more about blogging and posting about whatever I want! I'm still learning the layout of everything, but I've always wanted to have a blog, so this is a good start and I want to keep up with it, so we'll see how this goes!
